• Read big book The Emperor Penguin , The Snow Bear, and Arctic Babies  discuss fiction/nonfiction

• Get books about Arctic animals from bookroom - Penguins, Wolves, Polar Bears, and Caribou

• Review National Geographic Magazine and Zoobooks

• Do worksheets  "Pick a Pair of Skates" - synonyms, Rhyming Penguins - rhyming words

• Do worksheet "Where Do Penguins Live?"

• Talk about a rookery---Assign students in groups with two parent penguins and 3-4 baby penguins.  Give parents a "call"  such as Kee-you or Koo-ee.  Baby penguins must call out their family "call" and parents must find them in the crowd.

• Talk about the father penguin's responsibility of keeping the egg warm on their feet.  Have students try to walk with a rolled up pair of socks (egg).  Have a race to see who can get to the krill (gummy worm)

• Sample various kinds of fish crackers and graph favorites

• Write a penguin poem and illustrate

• Complete a webquest in class using the projector
